The Practical Design Fund

What is the Practical Design Fund?

The Practical Design Fund (PDF) was a 2012-13 grants program that was part of the Australian Government’s commitment to support initiatives and resources to identify practical ways to prepare people with disability, their families and carers, the disability sector and workforce for the transition to the National Disability Insurance Scheme.

These projects helped prepare people with disability, their families and carers, the disability sector and workforce for the changes in how people choose and access disability supports under the National Disability Insurance Scheme.

The projects included innovative and new approaches that:

  • assisted people with the transition to individualised and/or self-directed funding
  • supported people with disability to exercise choice and control
  • supported the growth and skilling of the disability workforce, and
  • helped transition disability service organisations to a National Disability Insurance Scheme environment, including providing person-centered support and managing individualised funding arrangements.

73 innovative projects received funding from the PDF.
