Matching of existing support categories with the National Disability Insurance Scheme supports

This document contains separate lists that set out the support types under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) with the matched supports in the South Australian Disability Services program and the Disability Services and HACC minimum data set services. A description of the NDIS Support Clusters is also included to assist providers with registration.

NDIS support clusters Descriptions
Accommodation/ tenancy assistance Assistance provided to guide, support and prompt participants, or to undertake on a participant's behalf, activities to ensure they obtain or retain appropriate accommodation
Assistance to access and maintain employment Assistance to enable a participant to obtain and/or retain employment in the open labour market or to work in specialised and supported work environments.
Assistance to integrate into school or other educational program Assistance to enable a participant to attend and participant in school or educational programs where their participant is limited by their disability and the needs are not able to be meet by the school or educational facility through reasonable adjustment.
Assistance with daily life tasks in a group or shared living arrangement Assisting with and/or supervising tasks of daily life with a focus on developing the skills of the individuals to live as autonomously as possible. The support is provided to each person living in the arrangement in accordance with their need. This may include participant s living in the same household or in cluster units or participant s living in a host family arrangement. This activity occurs in a group living situation that can be either ongoing or temporary.
Assistance with daily personal activities Assisting with, and/or supervising, personal tasks of daily life to develop skills of the participant to live as autonomously as possible. These supports are provided individually to participants. The support can be provided in a range of environments.
Assistance with travel / transport arrangements The provision of transport to enable participation in community, social, economic and daily life activities. This includes, but is not limited to, taxis and specialist transport arrangements. It is provided when the participant is unable to access alternative forms of transport as a result of their disability.
Assistive equipment for recreation and leisure Aids and equipment to assist participants in undertaking competitive and non-competitive sports and other recreational and leisure pursuits.
Assistive products for household tasks Aids and equipment to enable participants to undertake cooking, cleaning, washing, home maintenance and other tasks.
Assistive products for personal care and safety Aids and equipment for personal care or safety including beds and pressure mattresses, toilet and bathroom equipment, specialised clothing and continence needs.
Assistive technology specialist assessment, set up and training Personnel with skills to assist participants in aids or equipment assessment, set up and training.
Behaviour support A plan developed aimed at limiting the likelihood of behaviours of concern developing and/or increasing. This plan provides assistance to a participant, their family and support persons to identify behaviours of concern, or that cause harm to participant or others and to design and undertake specific positive behaviour support strategies.
Communication and information equipment Aids and equipment to assist participants with alternate communication or to access written or spoken communication via electronic or other means.
Community nursing care for high care needs Provision of nursing care to promote physical well-being including preventive monitoring of ongoing conditions and provision of direct treatments not able to be undertaken by the person as a result of their disability. This is not acute nursing care as delivered by the health system.
Development of daily living and life skills Training and development activities undertaken by the participant or their carer to increase ability to live as autonomously as possible. Training can be provided either individually or through group activities and can include skills in daily life activities, communication and social skills, problem solving and managing funding of supports.
Early intervention supports for early childhood A range of therapy interventions in a collaborative environment designed to enhance development and maximise the potential of a child who has a developmental delay or is at risk of such a delay.
Home modification design and construction Design and subsequent changes to the home including installation of equipment or changes to building structures, fixture or fittings to enable participants to live as independently as possible or to live safely at home.
Household tasks Supports to enable the participant to maintain their home environment. This may involve undertaking essential household tasks or the provision of support that the participant is not able to undertake.
Interpreting and translation Assisting participant to communicate as independently as possible through assistance to the participant to communicate in essential, personal, social or community activities.
Management of funding for supports under a participant's plan This support focuses on strengthening the participant s ability to undertake the tasks associated with the management of their supports. Plan management undertakes the financial management of the plan supports including setting up arrangements for and making payments to providers, expense claims processing, development of monthly statements for participants, claiming for payment from the NDIS. This support may include a small component of liaison with providers on the provision of supports and the implementation of the participant's plan.
Participation in community, social and civic activities Assisting participants to participate actively in community, social and civic activities by developing and enhancing a participants skills and providing supports during these activities.
Personal mobility equipment Equipment to assist participants to move around their home or community such as equipment for walking or wheelchairs as well as transfer aids.
Physical wellbeing activities Provision of support to promote and encourage physical well-being include exercise and physical activities and healthy diets.
Specialised assessment of skills, abilities and needs Provision of specialised assessment where the participant may have complex or unclear needs or require long term and/or intensive supports.
Therapeutic supports Therapeutic supports to assist the participant to gain skills and improve independence related to identified needs in areas such as language and communication, personal care, mobility and movement, interpersonal interactions, community living to support positive changes in the person's functioning, development and well-being. Therapeutic supports are delivered by professionals including Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Speech and Language Pathology and Psychology or by a therapy assistant under the supervision of the therapist.
Training for independence in travel and transport modification. Assisting with specific skills development that will enhance the ability of the participant to travel and use public transport as independently as possible. It also includes training in driving using adapted equipment or vehicle
Vehicle modifications Modifications or installation of equipment in a vehicle to enable a participant to travel safely as a passenger or to drive.
