2017 - 2018 Price Guide for NDIS service providers

The 2017-2018 Price Guide for NDIS service providers is now available and takes affect 1 July 2017.

Key changes to maximum prices include:

  • 4.5% increase for daily activity and community participation supports
  • 1.9% increase for capacity building supports
  • 2.1% increase for capital-related supports
  • No change for therapy services

Remote area loadings for maximum prices have increased including:

  • 20% loading for remote areas (previously 18%)
  • 25% loading for very remote areas (previously 23%)

Adjustment of plan values

The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) has released the prices for the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) funded supports for the 2017-18 financial year.

The new prices will come into effect from 1 July 2017.

As has been the case in previous years, service values in participant plans will be adjusted automatically in the system to match the new prices.

This adjustment will be made in the coming weeks. The indexation of participant plans will be backdated to 1 July 2017.

Claiming

Providers making bulk payment claims that cover periods before 30 June as well as post 1 July will need to pay special attention to the price details included in the claim.

  • pre-30 June service dates must comply with pre-30 June price controls; and
  • post-30 June service dates comply with the new post-30 June price controls available on the NDIS website.

Service bookings

The NDIA sets price limits, rather than prices - there is no requirement for providers to charge the maximum price for a given support.

All NDIS supports should be delivered according to agreements between providers and participants (which should be made in advance).

Changes to maximum prices do not over-ride existing agreements that participants have with their providers to supply supports at a particular price.

A commitment from a provider to deliver a service at a specific price for a period of time should be unaffected by an increase in NDIS price caps.

Once agreements of this type expire, providers and participants can then make new agreements with different price levels, if appropriate.

Providers can seek to change a service booking, however this must be with the agreement of the participant.

Pricing Review

Given the discussion in the 2017 Price Review; Participant and Provider workshops; and the Productivity Commission Report on NDIS Costs, the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) is immediately implementing an Independent Pricing Review that will be undertaken by McKinsey & Company.
