1 July a big day for the NDIS

People across Australia are getting NDIS ready in anticipation of 1 July when people in new areas across the country will be eligible to access the NDIS in a number of new regions and age groups across five states and territories.

These new rollout areas include:

  • Northern Territory
Darwin Remote, Katherine and eligible people in supported accommodation in Alice Springs
  • Queensland
  • New South Wales
South Eastern Sydney, Sydney, Far West District, Illawarra Shoalhaven, Mid North Coast, Murrumbidgee, Northern NSW and Western NSW
  • South Australia
Barossa Light and Lower North and Northern Adelaide for adults aged 18 to 64 years
  • Tasmania
    Children aged 4 to 11

The NDIS is being introduced in stages because it’s a big change and it is important to get it right and make it sustainable. Existing service users and new participants will enter the Scheme progressively.

New resources to help people accessing the Scheme for the first time are now available on the NDIS website.

Watch the Accessing the NDIS animation on the NDIS YouTube channel (external). Videos explaining the role of NDIS community partners (external) and Local Area Coordinators (external) are also available, and for participants starting their plan, factsheets can be found on our website.

Existing Commonwealth and state or territory-based services and supports will continue until eligible people start to receive supports from the NDIS.
