My life, my choice, my home Abbotsford Project

This video features Bree Synot, a young woman who lives in her own flat. Prior to moving into her flat Bree was in the Royal Children’s Hospital for some months, and then lived for another six months moving between respite facilities.

The Abbotsford demonstration project is a joint project between the Summer Foundation, TAC and annecto that combines housing location and design, assistive technology and inclusion support. Bree is one of six young people who would otherwise be faced with living arrangements such as in nursing homes each have their own flat in retrofitted block of flats. The demonstration project model combines housing location and design, assistive technology and inclusion support, with annecto responsible for developing and delivering the support and facilitation aspect of the model.

Bree is not an NDIS participant.

NDIS: Ordinary Life

The idea of people with disability being supported to live an ordinary life is central to the work of the NDIS.

Through reasonable and necessary supports, the NDIS is helping people live a life with the simple joys and opportunities many Australians take for granted.

This might mean getting involved in the community, enrolling in education, spending more time with family, entering the workforce for the first time or returning to work, receiving the right equipment or choosing the providers that best meet their needs.
