We are undergoing the Registration process for providers. If we get approval for one registration group to begin with, can we later expand our registration?
Yes, you can apply to expand your registration at any time. You can apply for additional registration groups in the 'registration details' tile in myplace. Descriptions of registration groups and the registration requirements for each are in the Provider Registration Guide to Suitability.
Anyone know what STATED SUPPORTS mean?
Supports that have the term 'STATED SUPPORTS' listed before the description must be purchased as they are described in the plan.
The decision to make some supports in your plan 'stated' supports has been made in accordance with the NDIS Plan Management Rules (external) , 2013 PART 6.
If you would like more information about why some supports in your plan have been described as 'stated', please discuss it with your NDIS Representative. You can also read more information on the understanding your NDIS plan on the NDIS website.
I have read and been told core funding is flexible and you can use funds from one thing to another. Does it mean if I have $1000 in consumables and $2000 in social participation, I can use $300 of my consumables funding for social participation (both core funding)?
There are three types of support budgets in your funding package:
- Core Budget – includes supports to help you complete activities related to daily living and work towards your longer-term goals
- Capacity Building Budget – includes supports to enable you to build your independence and skills
- Capital Budget – includes assistive technologies, equipment and home or vehicle modifications, and funding for capital costs you may need.
Your Core Budget is the most flexible, and includes four categories of support:
- Consumables (e.g. purchasing everyday use items such as continence aids)
- Daily Activities (e.g. assistance with self-care activities during the day or evening)
- Assistance with Social and Community Participation (e.g. supports to enable you to engage in social or recreational activities)
- Transport (e.g. if you are unable to use public transport because of your disability).
The good news is you can generally use Core Budget funds allocated against one support category to purchase supports under another support category unless funds have been set aside for a specific purpose such as periodic payments for transport.

As your day-to-day living activities and long-term goals are very specific to you, your core budget is the most flexible part in your funding. What you use your core budget for can look different for everyone. However it is important to remember that this part of your budget is centred on everyday living activities and long-term goals, so how you decide to use this funding must align with your goals. I have heard there are changes to the NDIS roll out in Western Australia. What are these changes?
In December 2017, the Commonwealth and WA Governments announced the national NDIS (delivered by the NDIA) will be rolled out in Western Australia. Prior to this announcement, the WA Government was going to deliver and administer the NDIS in Western Australia. This now means there will eventually be only one NDIS delivered by the NDIA across every state and territory of Australia.
