Making it easier to get it right, harder to get it wrong
We are working to improve integrity in the NDIS and make it easier to get it right and harder to get it wrong.
We know that most people connected to the NDIS do the right thing. But there are some people who try to take advantage of participants or commit fraud against the Scheme.
Fraud hurts everyone connected to the Scheme, especially participants. That’s why the NDIA has zero tolerance for fraud against the NDIS.
We want to help participants to learn more about fraud, especially how to know it, spot it and report it. Understanding what fraud is will support participants to protect their plans.
At the same time, the NDIA is working to improve how we detect, prevent and reduce fraud and non-compliance in the NDIS.
Be an informed consumer
Our goal is to support participants to protect their plans from fraud, and make sure legitimate participants can continue to access the NDIS.
We want participants to be informed consumers, who:
- Know what fraud looks like.
- Are confident to recognise fraud when they see it.
- Take steps to protect themselves and their NDIS plans.
- Report fraud to us.
If you think someone is doing the wrong thing with NDIS funds, you can report it by:
- Filling in our online tip-off form.
- Calling the NDIS Fraud Reporting and Scams Helpline on 1800 650 717.
Crack Down on Fraud
Our Crack Down on Fraud system uplift program focuses on strengthening our systems and improving our processes to detect, prevent and respond to fraud.
These improvements will help the NDIA to:
- Know exactly who is being paid and what NDIS supports they are being paid for.
- Complete more system checks before making payments.
- Have the information we need to look for errors before payments are made.
Strengthening our systems and processes makes it easier for everyone connected to the NDIS to get it right the first time when using our NDIS app and portals to pay and claim for NDIS supports.
Stopping exploitation against the NDIS
Anyone suspected of committing fraud against the NDIS will be investigated.
The Fraud Fusion Taskforce investigates every tip-off it receives.
Since its introduction in November 2022, the Fraud Fusion Taskforce has led to a significant rise in the number of investigations, prosecutions and providers being banned or issued with compliance notices.
NDIS participants and providers should continue to report any suspected fraud cases to the NDIA and the Fraud Fusion Taskforce to investigate.
