What is an eligibility reassessment

What an eligibility reassessment is

NDIS laws say who can be an NDIS participant. Sometimes, we get information or evidence that suggests you may no longer meet the requirements to be an NDIS participant.

When this happens, we may start a process to check your eligibility for the NDIS.

We call this process an eligibility reassessment.

We’ll let you know if we decide to start an eligibility reassessment.

Tip: Let us know about a change in your life.

It’s your responsibility to let us know if your situation has changed.

What an eligibility reassessment is for

You’re an NDIS participant because you met the requirements when you applied.

When we decided you were eligible, we told you that you met the age, residence and disability or early intervention requirements, or both.

Sometimes, your situation can change and make you ineligible for the NDIS.

When we do an eligibility reassessment, we ask you for information or evidence that shows you still meet the:

  • residency requirements
  • disability or early intervention requirements.

If you’re still eligible, you’ll remain a participant. You can keep using your NDIS plan.

You'll leave the NDIS if you can’t provide the information we need or your evidence suggests you are no longer eligible.

If this happens, we can support you to transition to community and mainstream supports and services, if you need them.

What an eligibility reassessment is like

We’ll send you a letter to let you know we’re doing an eligibility reassessment. We'll also contact you by phone to let you know.

The letter will explain that based on the evidence we have, we’re deciding whether you're still eligible to continue to be an NDIS participant.

We'll tell you:

  • what eligibility requirements we don’t think you meet
  • the kinds of information and evidence we need to decide if you're still eligible
  • when you need to give this information and evidence to us
  • what your rights are
  • what to do if you need more time to collect your information and evidence.

We’ll explain how this process works, as well as what happens next. We’ll also tell you when to expect to hear back from us.
