Mandatory registration for Supported Independent Living (SIL) and NDIS digital platform providers

The Minister for the NDIS, Jenny McAllister, announced late in 2025 that all providers delivering SIL and/or NDIS digital platform services must become registered.  

We are working with the NDIS Commission to support participants and providers through this change. We will contact affected participants soon to explain what this means for them.  

Participants using SIL supports

Your SIL provider must be registered or apply to register, by 1 October 2026. Your plan and funding will not change.

If your provider registers, you don’t need to do anything.

If your provider does not register, you will need to move to a registered provider. We will help you understand your options and find a new provider if needed.

It’s important that you or your carer start talking to your provider and ask:

  • Are they registered?
  • If they aren’t registered, do they plan to register before 1 October 2026?

If you organise your own support workers  

If you organise and employ your own support workers (and do not use a SIL provider), you do not need to do anything. This change does not apply to you.
