New NDIS laws have been passed by Parliament.
This means that there are some changes coming to the NDIS to secure it for the long term.
Right now, participants can continue using their plans and supports as usual.
Over time, the new laws will change:
- how people access the NDIS
- how plans are created
- how funding is used
- how providers deliver supports
- how the NDIA addresses fraud
- how NDIS prices are set.
Some changes, such as updates to plan reassessments and record keeping, will begin in the coming weeks.
Other changes, such as to social and community participation funding, will begin phasing in from October this year.
The remaining reforms will be introduced gradually over the next few years. There will be ongoing consultation with the disability community.
Eligibility changes will not occur until 1 January 2028. People with permanent and significant disability will continue to be able to access the NDIS.
In the meantime, it’s normal for plans to go up and down as participants’ needs change over time. This is not related to the reform changes.
We’ll let participants know if a change affects them, what’s happening and when, and make sure they have the information and support they need.
We’ll also update providers on what the changes mean for them.
No changes have been made while these new laws have been considered by the Parliament.
Plan changes that occur through the usual planning process should not be confused with these reforms.
