Interim arrangements for dysphagia and mainstream health supports

The Minister for Social Services, Paul Fletcher, recently announced the NDIS will fund, as an interim arrangement, the initial assessment, development and monitoring of meal plans for people with dysphagia receiving support in a community setting.

Dysphagia related care and supports are required by participants who have difficulty swallowing.

This interim arrangement will include the initial assessment, development and monitoring of meal time plans until a final decision on roles and responsibilities of the NDIS and health systems is made by Governments in early 2019.

The NDIA’s priority is to ensure participant safety and wellbeing is maintained.

In addition, the Disability Reform Council (DRC) has also clarified interim arrangements regarding funding of mainstream health supports in participant plans.
