The Australian Government today announced investment into six new initiatives that deliver on its commitment to a better National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) for people with disability who participate in the Scheme Participants, providers and workers will share $3.1 million through the Support for NDIS Providers Grants Program to pilot, develop and deliver innovative projects that will support and improve quality and safeguards in the NDIS.

People living with disability will be able to access better support from their peers and community after the Australian Government announced $39.8 million over two years in grants to 69 disability organisations across the country.

New data shows recent Government reforms to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) has the world-first scheme on track to achieve an 8 per cent annual growth target by 1 July 2026, down from 23 per cent in the last year of the former Coalition government, Minister for the NDIS and Government Services the Hon. Three people have been jailed in New South Wales for their roles in a multimillion-dollar defrauding of the NDIS, in a week NDIS Minister, the Hon. Bill Shorten MP announced further measures to crackdown on rorts. The sentencing is the result of an investigation into several suspected fraudulent providers in western Sydney. The investigation, led by the Australian Federal Police in partnership with the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA), AUSTRAC and Services Australia, uncovered more than $5.8 million in fraud during the thorough investigation. Two other men were sentenced to imprisonment in 2022 as part of the investigation.

Reforms led by the Minister for the NDIS are contributing to Scheme expenditure being $1 billion lower than forecast in the 2024-25 Budget. The reforms are expected to stabilise the growth in Scheme expenses over the next 4 years.
