The NDIA, DRCO and IAC commit to continue working together on NDIS reforms. Co-design working groups need to evolve to better reflect the broader scope of co-design work in this phase of reform.

This is a summary of the Participant Reference Group’s (PRG) meeting. The Participant Reference Group (PRG) makes sure the NDIA hears and understands the participant voice. The PRG has 23 members from participant and carer organisations across Australia. The NDIA uses feedback from PRG meetings to keep making the NDIS better.

Key Insights: Current eligibility reassessment communications are problematic for people with permanent disability, for example Down Syndrome, and are causing significant trauma for participants and families. Concern the Agency is sending participants eligibility reassessment letters when their case is sitting before the Administrative Review Tribunal. Concern participants are not receiving the initial communication asking for evidence as part of their eligibility reassessment. The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) will pilot two new initiatives under the Agency’s new Quality Supports program, to deliver high quality services to vulnerable participants.

The Hon. Bill Shorten MP has today released the final lists of what NDIS participants can and cannot spend their funding on. The lists will provide much needed clarity and certainty to participants and providers. This is the first time this list has been reviewed since the commencement of the NDIS and updates current guidelines and practices.
