From 1 July 2023, some New Zealand citizens who have been living in Australia for at least four years will be eligible to apply directly for Australian citizenship.
They will no longer need to first apply for, and be granted, a permanent visa.
Children born in Australia on or after 1 July 2022, whose parents are special category visa holders, may also automatically acquire Australian citizenship at birth.
While these changes will impact how some New Zealand citizens apply to become an Australian citizen, there are no changes to eligibility requirements for the NDIS.
To be eligible for the NDIS, you must meet the age, residence and disability or early intervention requirements.
