Overview

The Australian Government has invested $56.4 million in the NDIA to improve the way we make Supported Independent Living decisions.

This initiative focuses on how we can make consistent, equitable and sustainable decisions aligned with the best interests of participants and their families about safety, quality, and outcomes.

As part of our commitment to co-design reform a Home and Living Working Group has been established to explore problems and discuss possible solutions.

Working Group Members include NDIS participants, Disability Representative and Carer Organisations (DRCO), Independent Advisory Council (IAC) and NDIA staff.

The Working Group has held 7 working group sessions between July 2023 and  March 2024.

What we have done so far:

  • Undertaken research and analysis of the current home and living access and decision process.
  • Improved communications to participants and the community on requesting home and living supports. This includes information on what evidence is required to include home and living supports in a participants plan.
  • Reviewed all home and living information on the NDIS website and made recommendations on new resources and information to be developed to better support participants to understand and navigate their home and living options.

The Working Group is also preparing to include the NDIS Review and Disability Royal Commission recommendations into their work.

This work will start from June 2024.
