Early childhood interventions research

The evidence on early intervention for children on the autism spectrum tells us that each child is unique, so interventions should reflect a child’s individual needs. The research also emphasises the important role of parents. 

Evidence review: Early interventions for children with autism

The research suggests that positive effects on a range of child and family outcomes are seen in behavioural interventions, developmental interventions, naturalistic developmental behavioural interventions, technology-based interventions, and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy.

What did we review?

In May 2020, we asked the Autism Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) to independently review evidence for the main therapeutic (i.e. non-pharmacologic) intervention approaches for children up to age 12 on the autism spectrum. 

The review helps answer questions about the effects of these interventions on outcomes for children, their parents and caregivers.

Evidence review: Interventions for children with NMD

We researched the safety and success of intense physical activity interventions in young people with progressive neuromuscular disorders. We ran a review and analysis of worldwide reports.
